I am a painter and a fiber artist with a BS in textile design from Philadelphia University. I paint with watercolour, ink, acrylics and occasionally oils depending on my mood. My fiber work involves weaving, spinning, felting, natural dyeing, a little embroidery, some quilting....you get the picture! Inevitably there was a merging of my painting and textile sensibilities. Most of my paintings are now woven. I will create two or even three paintings of a subject and then strip them down into paper warps and wefts. These undulating bands are then woven together to create a new painting with unique colour and textural effects. Additional imagery is often collaged or painted on top. Several of my new pieces incorporate my handspun natural dyed yarn and paper I made with wild mushrooms.
My studios are in an old farmhouse in rural PA. Several fiber producing animals help to keep it lively here, along with a herd of cats that live in the barn. The beautiul countryside provides endless inspiration for my work. I've recently returned to this area after spending many years in a more metropolitan setting, and am enjoying it immensely.
